AI tools now remove production friction — editing, iteration, layout refinement, prepress precision — and print-on-demand infrastructure makes global distribution possible without institutional backing. That doesn’t replace authorship. It restores independence. For the first time, a small team — or even two people — can produce a book at the level once reserved for publishing houses.
